Troubleshoot the filename, USB connection, audio format and custom lock sound compatibility.
Work through these checks while parked.
Check the name and location
Use exactly LockChime.wav at the drive's top level. Remove numbered suffixes and check for hidden double extensions such as .wav.wav. Keep one custom chime there at a time.
Check the connection
Use a data-capable USB port and a drive the car recognises. Bluetooth playback and charging-only connections do not install a lock chime. Back up recordings before preparing or changing a drive.
Check the audio and vehicle
Use the purchased WAV, not an MP3 renamed to WAV. Our production standard is mono 44.1 kHz, 16-bit PCM, under 950 KB and no longer than five seconds. These are our standards, not universal official Tesla requirements. Confirm the car has the PWS external speaker and Lock Sound option.
Check locking
Test locking from outside. If walk-away locking does not occur, check its settings, including Exclude Home, and your owner's manual.
